Many of the challenges facing young people today, loneliness, isolation, anxiety, disengagement, and a lack of belonging, cannot be solved through information alone.
For more than a decade, Outside Perspectives has worked alongside schools, youth-serving organizations, and community partners to create opportunities for connection, confidence, leadership, and belonging.
Our Story
Outside Perspectives was founded in 2015 by Nicky Wood and Shannon Zich with a simple belief:
The outdoors can be a powerful catalyst for growth.
What began as a small grassroots effort and grew into a trusted partner for schools, youth service bureaus, nonprofits, and community organizations throughout Connecticut.
Over the years, we witnessed firsthand how outdoor experiences helped participants develop confidence, resilience, leadership, and meaningful relationships.
But we also learned something important.
The experience itself was only part of the story.
Lasting growth happened when young people had trusted adults, supportive communities, and ongoing opportunities to practice what they learned.
We began to recognize that communities needed more than program providers.
They needed support systems.
They needed resources.
They needed trained leaders.
They needed sustainable ways to continue creating meaningful experiences long after a single trip or program ended.

Partnership Support
We provide the tools, resources, and expertise organizations need to create meaningful shared experiences, including trip planning, equipment access, training, logistics support, evaluation tools, and more.
We serve organizations primarily in Connecticut and are open to discussing partnerships in Western MA.
Gear Collective
A community resource that expands access to outdoor recreation by reducing barriers to equipment, knowledge, and participation.
